Drone Inspections

  • One of the ways Oncor inspects our power lines and electric equipment is through the use of drones. Typically, we fly drones 6-10 feet above our utility poles. The sole purpose of these flights is to photograph our equipment from an aerial view for maintenance and reliability purposes.
  • Customers enrolled in MyOncor Alerts will receive notifications about upcoming drone work in their area via text message, email, and/or automated voice call. We understand drones can be a source of noise and potential disturbance, and we work to complete inspections as quickly and safely as possible to minimize potential impacts to customers.

Pole Protection

  • Oncor works year-round to ensure our utility poles can continue safely supporting the equipment that helps deliver electricity to our customers.
  • This includes applying a non-toxic protective coating that helps reduce damage from natural wear, outdoor exposure and insects. These types of protective treatments are standard throughout our industry.

Ground Inspections

  • Oncor personnel also conduct on-the-ground maintenance and reliability inspections of our utility poles and other equipment. Our highly trained team members check our equipment’s age and condition, which may include digging around the structure. Poles and wires applicable for future replacement or repair will be marked by team members accordingly.
