Oncor Teams closely monitoring incoming weather systems
DALLAS, May 30, 2024 – Shortly before midday, heavy rain, thunder, lightning and flooding have impacted several of the communities where Oncor teams are working to restore outages caused by Tuesday’s storm.
Oncor personnel will continue working as quickly and safely as possible, as weather conditions allow, to respond to outages caused by Tuesday’s storms and today’s inclement weather. We are also closely monitoring another weather system that may impact our area tonight and into early Friday.
If weather conditions allow, our goal is to substantially complete restoration efforts by Friday evening. Harder-hit areas, including the communities of North Dallas, East Dallas and Mesquite are expected to be restored Saturday.
Oncor teams, contractors and mutual assistance partners will continue to work around the clock to restore some 117,000 customers from Tuesday’s storm who currently remain without power. The initial storm knocked out electricity to more than 650,000 homes and businesses in north-central and eastern Texas.
Oncor teams working 24/7
Since Tuesday, Oncor has deployed more than 10,000 personnel, a team comprised of employees, contractors and other utility workers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and Virginia.
Power has been restored to more than 500,000 of the customers who lost electricity Tuesday. As outages are restored in neighborhoods, Oncor moves those personnel and they join other team members in areas where the largest numbers of customers are still without electricity.
Remaining outages are among the most complex and time consuming. They often require the reconstruction of distribution equipment and replacement of utility poles and transformers.
While significant progress has been made, Oncor recognizes the frustration and challenges faced by customers who are still without power and appreciates their patience. Our teams are working day and night until all customer outages are restored.
Use caution around power lines
As homeowners and tree-trimming contractors continue the difficult work of clean-up and debris removal around their homes and businesses, Oncor urges everyone to put safety first and take extra precautions during this process.
If you see a downed power line, leave the area and call 9-1-1.
Do not attempt to trim, cut or remove trees or vegetation from your property if power lines are in the area. This work should be performed by certified professionals.
Fallen trees and debris may conceal these lines or other hazards. You should always assume a downed or low-hanging power line is energized and stay away. Additionally, anything touching the power line, such as a tree branch, could also be electrified. Keep pets, children and others away from the area.
Also, while Oncor repair efforts continue, individuals without power are encouraged to examine their home electrical equipment, including the meter base and/or weatherhead, to ensure they have not been damaged or pulled off. If so, an electrician will need to make repairs and a city inspection may be required before power can be safely restored.
