DALLAS (January 9, 2025) – Oncor continues to closely monitor and respond to the ongoing winter storm, which has resulted in minor to moderate snow, sleet and ice across various parts of our service area. While outage impacts for customers have been minimal thus far, Oncor understands that any outage is impactful to our customers. Oncor team members are quickly and safely responding to restore power where needed.
Additional winter precipitation and freezing conditions are expected overnight. Lineworkers, construction crews and vegetation management (tree trimming) teams are prepared to respond to any potential outage impacts throughout the night and into Friday.
Winter Precipitation: Current Outlook
Snow, sleet and ice have all been reported across Oncor’s service area since early Thursday morning. Areas along and north of I-30 in North Texas have seen the most snow, with three to five inches reported in some communities.
Mixed, wintry precipitation will continue into the overnight hours, ending Friday morning. Additional snow and ice accumulations are possible, particularly along and north of I-20 in North & East Texas. While precipitation will end early Friday, any snow or ice may not melt completely until Saturday afternoon. As a result, roads conditions may continue to be impacted through Saturday morning.
Hazardous Road Conditions
Ice accumulation poses the greatest possible impact to electric service as it can weigh down branches and equipment. While significant ice accumulation has not yet occurred on vegetation or power lines, even a small amount of ice can make roads and bridges slick and dangerous to drive on. Snow can also become compacted and act as a sheet of ice on roadways.
As a result, vehicle accidents that impact electric poles and equipment may be more likely, and it may take additional time for Oncor team members to safely navigate to outage locations. Customers are urged to stay weather aware and monitor road conditions in their area before attempting travel. Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses and shaded areas as they tend to freeze first.
