Multiple lines of thunderstorms began to develop late Monday afternoon in West Texas and track east through the Oncor service area.
This storm system generated damaging wind, heavy rain, hail and at least five confirmed tornadoes across western and southern regions in Cooke County and the cities of Jacksboro, Bowie, Round Rock and Jarrell. The eastern portion of our service area is still experiencing weather impacts as the storm exits the state.
Some of the tornadoes have caused substantial damage to the local communities and Oncor infrastructure, with the most extensive damage located in Jack and Williamson counties. Damage assessment and restoration started as soon as it was safe to begin work and has continued overnight and into the early morning.
More than 80 poles were damaged and need to be replaced in Jacksboro and more than 75 were downed in the Round Rock area. Significant progress was made overnight and additional resources have been deployed to areas of highest need. About 7,000 outages remain in the Round Rock area and some 1,000 outages remain in the Jacksboro area.
Personnel will continue to work to restore power to all impacted customers as quickly and safely as possible. Customer can report outages and receive updates by texting “REG” to 66267 for My Oncor text alerts, downloading the MyOncor App and following Oncor on Facebook and Twitter, or by calling 888.313.4747.
