The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming soon to North Texas, and Oncor has been working for months to ensure the lights stay on while the region temporarily transforms into the center of the soccer universe.

Between June 14 and July 14, Dallas Stadium will host nine matches, including a semifinal match that will determine one of the two countries that will vie for the championship. The countries scheduled to play matches in Arlington during the earlier stages of the tournament are Argentina, Austria, Croatia, England, Japan, Jordan, Netherlands, and Sweden.

Dallas, Frisco and Mansfield will also host key locations during this year’s event. With the eyes of the soccer world soon to be fixed on Oncor’s service territory, our teams have spent several months verifying the readiness of our electric facilities.

“Oncor is excited to welcome soccer fans from around the globe to North Texas for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” said Daniel Hall, Senior Vice President, Distribution. “Our teams also recognize that we have an important responsibility to continue providing safe, reliable power to our customers and to the hundreds of thousands of people visiting North Texas to experience this major event. We’ve spent months coordinating with our various partners and making sure our equipment can continue to meet these needs while the world’s largest sporting event unfolds within our service territory. It is a privilege to help power the FIFA World Cup, and Oncor is prepared to help make it a remarkable experience.”

Over the past several months, Oncor has inspected equipment in hundreds of North Texas locations to verify the equipment’s readiness and perform targeted upgrades where necessary.

Much of this work is focused on providing a safe, reliable, and resilient distribution system to serve the needs of the surrounding communities.

Operations teams will maintain enhanced, around-the-clock monitoring of system conditions throughout the tournament, along with continuous 24/7 weather monitoring to anticipate and respond to changing conditions. Technicians will be staged through the duration of the tournament at Dallas Stadium and other key locations to monitor conditions and quickly and safely respond if needed. Oncor teams will continue to coordinate with local officials, emergency responders and other key partners at the local, state and federal levels during the event.
