Update on Storm-Related Outages

DALLAS, October 24, 2019 – As of this morning, all known storm-related outages for homes and businesses capable of accepting power have been restored, with the exception of approximately 1,500 customers connected to one area of extensively damaged electric equipment in the heart of the North Dallas tornado.

 

Heavy debris and congestion blocked full access to this neighborhood and the need to jackhammer through rocks to set poles also caused some delay. Oncor personnel and mutual assistance partners worked through the night and remain focused on completing restoration as quickly and safely as possible. 

 

There are also many homes and businesses along the tornado path damaged so severely that they will not be able to accept power until proper repairs are made. Oncor remains focused on identifying those properties and working with residents to support their ongoing restoration process. This could involve temporarily disconnecting meters, installing temporary power connections for construction use, and reconnecting permanent power once necessary inspections are completed.

 

It is important to note that Oncor’s online Storm Center map identifies all current outages throughout our service area, which serves more than 10 million Texans in 410 communities. As we respond to power outages from a variety of issues, such as traffic accidents, construction work and other causes, it is important to distinguish storm-related outages from non-storm related outages.

 

Approximately 5,200 Oncor and mutual assistance personnel responded to this severe weather event, which caused more than 150,000 total outages at the peak of Sunday night’s storms. Oncor greatly appreciates the support of our mutual assistance partners and the continued understanding and patience of our customers, especially in the face of such devastating storm impacts and extended outages.
