Advanced meters promote energy efficiency, helping Texas reduce overall consumption and better meet its growing population’s energy needs. Efficient energy use helps conserve precious state resources, like water, and reduces greenhouse gas and ozone emissions. Since May 2009, Oncor has completed about 4.5 million service orders remotely, eliminating the need to dispatch personnel and vehicles to perform those tasks. Over the same time period, this has eliminated the need to drive more than 20 million miles, saving 1.65 million gallons of fuel and preventingore than 16,000 tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere.
