Transmission
Generally, transmission lines are the high voltage conductors that move electricity from power plants to distribution substations, from which such electricity is delivered over distribution systems to most electric customers. Therefore, ensuring adequate transmission capability is essential to providing reliable electric service. The state of Texas has been in a state of steady population and economic growth, which requires continuous review of transmission capacity to be sure that there are sufficient transmission facilities in place to serve the electric needs of Texas consumers in an economical manner today and in the future.
Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC is responsible for planning and building the electric transmission system from the generator to the distribution substations in portions of northern, western, and central Texas. Oncor is additionally responsible for operating its transmission system and maintaining the structures, wires, and associated facilities necessary for the reliable transmission of electricity. Such maintenance includes restoring service when there is a power outage.
