Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ)
‘CREZ’ is the acronym for ‘Competitive Renewable Energy Zones’, which are geographic areas throughout the state in which renewable energy resources and suitable land areas are sufficient to develop generating capacity from renewable energy technologies. The concept of CREZ in Texas was introduced several years ago by the Texas State Legislature in the effort to intensify the State’s goals for use of renewable energy. The attainment of these renewable energy targets and the means to achieve these objectives through expansion of appropriate infrastructure has been, and continues to be, an involved and evolving process.
Information regarding the Legislative background and institution of the CREZ, the process for implementation of the CREZ, and a listing of formal proceedings to accomplish the integration of renewable energy can be found using the links below.
