Things You Should Know
When choosing an energy efficiency service provider, it is very important to ask questions. If you do not get a response you feel comfortable with or if a particular service provider does not install all the types of services you are interested in, contact another.
Questions you might want to ask when contacting a service provider could include the following:
What types of energy efficiency improvements do you install?
Not all service providers install all types of eligible energy efficiency improvements.
Is there a fee to evaluate my home?
Although most service providers do not charge a fee to evaluate a home, some do. Feel free to contact others to compare fees and the types of energy efficiency improvements they provide.
Will I have to pay for any of the work performed?
This program is intended to provide services at no cost or a very low cost to you. Your financial obligation should be discussed with your service provider before any work is done in your home.
How do I find a participating Service Provider in my area?
A list of participating service providers is available on this website. You will need to find a service provider who offers the energy efficiency improvements that meet your needs. Because some may not work in your area or offer all of the energy efficiency improvements associated with this program (and are not required to do so), it may help to narrow the list down by calling those with area codes you are familiar with. You are allowed to use more than one if you choose.
Once a service provider has completed improvements to your home, a copy of the Host Customer Agreement, in which you agree to allow Oncor to perform a post-inspection, should be given to you. Random inspections are required by the Public Utility Commission of Texas to verify the work performed by the service provider. In addition, they should leave a Host Customer Certificate, which identifies the energy efficiency improvements that were installed and a Customer Disclosure form, which provides information regarding your rights and contract with the service provider.
