Eligible Energy Efficiency Improvements
The Oncor Low-Income Weatherization Program is one of several programs established through the Texas Electric Choice Act to encourage the installation of energy efficient technologies to reduce energy demand and encourage energy savings for all customers.
Through this program, Oncor provides incentives to service providers who install energy efficiency improvements at Oncor customer's homes. The primary objective of this program is to achieve a cost-effective reduction of energy in the homes of eligible families. Oncor customers must meet the income requirements (.pdf) in order to participate in this program.
Eligible Energy Efficiency Improvements
Weatherization projects include a variety of energy efficient measures. Since each home has specific energy needs, the service provider will determine through a pre-assessment of the home which measures are the most beneficial, save the most energy and have the most significant impact on reducing energy costs. The measures listed below will normally be provided by the service provider at low or no cost to the customer.
Insulation – Installing the appropriate amount of insulation in your home will not only help reduce your cooling and heating costs but also make your home more comfortable.
Duct sealing – Properly sealing your air conditioning ducts will reduce the amount of cooling and heating required to keep your home comfortable which saves energy and lowers cooling and heating costs. The service provider must test for air leakage (.pdf) in the air conditioning ducts before and after sealing measures are performed.
Caulking and weather-stripping – Caulking around windows and other openings and weather-stripping doors in your home can significantly reduce air leakage, which reduces cooling and heating costs. The service provider must perform an air leakage test (.pdf) in the home before and after the air sealing measures are performed.
Compact fluorescent lighting – Installing compact fluorescent lamps is a quick and easy way to help reduce the amount of energy your home consumes.
Water saver devices – Items such as low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators can reduce the amount of hot water your home has to heat, which reduces the amount of energy consumed by your water heater.
The measures listed below may be provided by the service provider at a cost to the customer:
- Central Air Conditioner
- Window Air Conditioner
- Floor Insulation
- Solar Screens
- ENERGY STAR® Appliances
