Solar PhotoVoltaic (PV) Program

General Program Overview

The Solar PV Program is designed to help Oncor customers meet a portion of their electric energy needs with solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The Program assists customers with selecting the best site for a solar PV system, identifying Service Providers (contractors), and provides incentives to help offset the initial cost of installing a solar PV system.

There are three main steps involved in the Program.

solar panelStep 1: Customers work with Service Providers to determine eligibility and define the technical specifications of a solar PV system suitable for their property.

Step 2: The selected Service Provider completes an incentive application and submits technical details of the proposed system for review. Oncor reviews the incentive application and informs the customer/contractor of acceptance. If your application is approved, the incentive amount is reserved.

Step 3: The Service Provider constructs the proposed solar PV system and submits the Final Application Form to Oncor.* Upon project completion, Oncor will send an incentive check directly to the customer or Service Provider.

*Projects will be selected at random for inspection prior to incentive processing.

What is the Incentive Level?

The incentive level for program year 2009 is $2.46 per watt. Incentives are calculated based on the total DC capacity of a solar electric system, determined by the sum of the DC capacity of all modules installed. The incentive covers up to 10 kWdc for residential customers and up to 100 kWdc for commercial, governmental, and non-profit customers.

Eligibility Requirements

Any residential, commercial, or governmental customer located in Oncor service area and served by an Oncor meter is eligible to participate in the Program. For more information visit www.txreincentives.com/opv.

Qualifying Measures

Solar PV systems must meet all of these criteria:

  • Must be a new grid-connected solar PV system
  • Must meet Oncor's interconnection and Solar PV Program Requirements
  • Must meet a minimum estimated performance threshold. Systems with excessive shading or undesirable solar panel orientation will not qualify for an incentive.

Selecting a Service Provider

Find a list of registered Service Providers at http://www.txreincentives.com/opv/contractors.php.

Customers may select a Service Provider not on the list of registered providers. However, all Service Providers must undergo an application process to become registered in the Program. Eligibility requirements and forms can be found at www.txreincentives.com/opv.
