Restoring Power

When extensive outages occur, Oncor mobilizes all available crews and equipment and sometimes asks for assistance from other utilities to get the power back on as fast as possible. Oncor's restoration process has been proven effective during past outages and is continuously reviewed.

In the aftermath of a large storm, crews are dispatched to the affected areas to assess damage prior to beginning repairs. This step allows Oncor to evaluate the situation before committing crews to specific neighborhoods and cities. If you see Oncor trucks drive through your neighborhood without stopping, it's part of our restoration plan. We do our best to ensure crews arrive at the hardest hit areas first.

As crews move through neighborhoods making repairs and restoring power, some homes and businesses may have service before others. If you find that your neighbor's power is restored, but you're still without electricity, you may be on a different circuit (see diagram). In such circumstances, avoid running extension cords from your neighbors' house to get electricity. This is dangerous and could damage equipment and your home.
