Our Community
For over 100 years, Oncor has built a reputation as a company that cares about our communities and is committed to being a good corporate citizen. Whether the challenge involves supporting the environment, promoting safety or teaching school children about electricity, Oncor can be counted on.
Oncor is recognized as an innovator and leader in all areas of environmental stewardship. In the early 1970s, TXU Electric pioneered programs to protect the environment that state and federal agencies later used as models. Today the company's commitment to protecting the earth's land, air and water continues just as strong.
Oncor and the Texas Amber Alert NetworkAt Oncor, we have taken a leadership role in the communities we serve through our participation in the Texas Amber Alert Network. The Texas Amber Alert Network is the centerpiece of a state strategy to immediately notify the news media and the public about child abductions in an effort to identify a child’s location and potential abductors.
Oncor participates in the plan by relaying all alerts to our field employees along with any information available such as a description of the alleged abductor, vehicle description or other information. In the event an Oncor employee identifies a child, adult, or vehicle fitting the Amber Alert description, the employee will immediately call a special telephone number and provide authorities with as much information as the employee knows.
On any given day, Oncor employees are in and around Texas communities maintaining 117,000 miles of transmission/distribution power lines and reading more than three million meters. These employees spend a great deal of time in local communities and their participation will help provide both local and state law enforcement agencies with additional eyes and ears during emergencies. While we hope that this system will never have to be used, we want to be prepared to help when problems do occur.
