To educate customers about the importance of planting trees away from power lines, Oncor created the Know Before You Grow (KBYG) program.
Selecting the Right Tree for the Right Place
When landscaping, it is important to select the right tree for the right place. Because different trees have different mature heights, plan carefully where you plant each tree to enhance your property value and prevent costly trimming and damage to your home in the future.
Good landscaping also includes shrubs and low-growing trees that are compatible with electric utility lines. Normally, low-growing trees will not reach electric utility lines, and therefore will help prevent power interruptions for you and your neighbors.
To learn more, read our Know Before You Grow(.pdf) brochure where you will find a list of trees that are compatible around power lines and information regarding where and when to plant trees around your home.
